Overview
Trauma to the larynx and trachea, whether caused by motor-vehicle collision, blunt anterior neck impact, strangulation, sports injury, stab wound, gunshot wound, or penetrating neck trauma, is a high-risk surgical airway emergency. Management follows three sequential priorities: secure a safe airway immediately, then restore the laryngeal framework to preserve voice, and finally restore safe swallowing while preventing chronic aspiration and airway stenosis.
